Historic Elmhurst Craftsman

Featured Home – Inside East Sacramento & Home Tour
This growing family came to us with a small, well-worn bungalow within the historic Elmhurst neighborhood of Sacramento. Staying within the character and proportion of the rest of the neighborhood, we constructed this home with the integrity of yesterday's artisans, combining old world craftsmanship, transforming this unassuming craftsman into a two-story, light-filled family home. The first floor features a classic, craftsman kitchen affording all the luxuries of daylight, space and gathering space. A new mudroom and laundry room adjoin the kitchen, the new dining room features custom box beams. The new second floor features a master suite overlooking the private garden and pool area, a guest suite, and a third bedroom. Custom built-ins and wainscoting throughout. Copper tiles with a craftsman design are integrated into the stained wood stair railing. A large redwood deck and pergola interlaces with the historic fabric of the home.
Land Park Tudor Revival

This 1920s Land Park Tudor second-story addition and remodel was restored with great attention to detail. The steeply pitched roof, divided light casement windows, half timbering with stucco exterior are classic characteristics of Tudor-style architecture. Statuary marble and limestone countertops compliment the custom cabinetry. State-of-the-art LED lighting throughout with specialized lighting at shampoo boxes, shower benches, and glass cabinets and shelves in the kitchen. An old hallway becomes a wine room/pantry. A beautiful chandelier hangs over the master tub, overlooking the new pool, fire pit and stunning landscaping. New, classic oak flooring throughout with classic iron wall registers. The custom iron railing at the rear balcony and front porch create cottage-style charm.
McKinley Park Cottage Craftsman

Distinctively American Craftsman, this new house has tons of hand-crafted detail inside and out. The front porch covering the entryway extends the livable space and allows the homeowners to spend time oustide. Tapered columns sit atop stone piers. The multi-pane windows are grouped together and cased in wide trim to create a traditional Prairie architectural style. Skylights and thoughtful window placement usher in natural light. A mixture of decorative rafter tails, staggered shingles and stucco reflect the influence of the Arts & Crafts movement.

The homeowners plan to raise their family in their new home for many years to come!

Woodland Historic Craftsman

Old meets new in this Classic Craftsman home in Historic downtown Woodland. The main level and second floor of this home was stunningly updated while maintaining its original charm. The kitchen and dining room include custom Lyptus cabinetry, a Vetrazzo recycled glass island top and quartz perimeter countertops. A hyrdo spa tub, recycled glass tile and vintage-inspired pedestal sinks add original character to the master bathroom. The lovely finishes in the guest bathroom include a deep soaking tub, a custom vanity and classic subway tile blended with recycled glass tile.
Italian Country Villa

Vivere e amare! It's a long awaited dream for these homeowners to have an Italian villa built on their property. They can now enjoy entertaining Italian-style with a 48" grill, a pizza oven, an extra large fireplace with sliding barn doors that hide the 60" tv when not in use. The 126' reclaimed dining table and Habersham chairs with rush seats comfortably seats 12. A beautiful twig chandelier and two stunning ceiling fans hang above the dining table. Every detail was addressed on the homeowners' wish list – bordeaux leather countertops, a custom concrete apron sink, a copper bar sink, a 21' custom cedar wire-brushed sliding door system with a hand-forged lockset, a 20' mantel with hand-forged corbels and brackets, and stainless steel appliances. Interior and exterior overgrouted stone and lime plaster give this villa the feel of an old Italian farmhouse. Complete landscaping includes a mini Zinfandel vineyard, a 9-hole putting green, olive trees and lavender.
McKinley Park Modern Craftsman

Sac Bee October 2014

After this young, professional couple purchased a small bungalow in McKinley Park, they hired us to build their dream home by adding a second story and completely remodeling the existing home. We listened to the homeowners wishes to design and build with simple, clean lines – a modern take on the classic Craftsman. It's all in the details – mixing stained walnut with white cabinetry, dentil crown moulding, carrara marble with black honed granite countertops, live edge redwood bar top, temperature-controlled wine room, floating shelves at the kitchen and fireplace, and custom cabinetry throughout.

1920's Bungalow

In one of Sacramento's most-desirable neighborhoods, this potential tear-down was transformed into a classic Craftsman home and was given a second chance to shine with a major remodel. This home received a custom kitchen and butler's pantry with granite countertops, a natural stone backsplash, custom-glazed cabinetry, a hand-hammered copper apron sink and island sink as well as a decorative copper panel with pot filler behind the stainless steel commercial cooktop, in addition to a new luxurious master suite, family room and dining room. All of the existing rooms were revived with exquisite Craftsman detail for a luxurious, charming European feel.
Fabulous 40s Mid Century Modern

A Modern remodel in the heart of Sacramento's prestigious Fab 40s. Happiness comes in all forms, but for these homeowners it came in the shape of a sleek, contemporary kitchen and bathroom that celebrates midcentury modern design. This contemporary kitchen becomes a stylish work space filled with wow-worthy amenities. A large central island provides plenty of prep space as well as a spacious food-staging area and plenty of room for casual dining at the end of the island. Warmed with custom, solid walnut cabinetry with hand-forged cabinet hardware, high-end stainless steel appliances, and contemporary lighting.
El Dorado Hills Remodel

Elegant lines, high-tech performance, authentic textures and personalization: these are the main features of this custom modern kitchen, family room and two bathrooms. The kitchen cabinets are walnut with meticulously matched grain. The raised bamboo bar top sits atop stainless steel spacers. The backsplash and glass front cabinets are back-painted in white and so easy to clean! The clients love their induction cooktop. A floating walnut fireplace hearth topped in quartz sets of the three-sided fireplace.

We worked together with the homeowners to bring their vanity design to life, combining tiger maple and walnut. In the master bathroom, travertine vessel sinks with WaterSense faucets bring a sense of Zen to the space. Three ceiling mount pendants frame the vanity mirrors. The hall bathroom's high-tech shower door shows off the glass mosaic tile.

Lei Street Remodel

These Australian homeowners wanted to bring modern and natural elements into their home – custom fir cabinetry with a natural stain, glass shelves in the kitchen are suspended from a ceiling mounted wire cable system for growing organic herbs, floating glass shelves embedded in stone were installed in the bar area for displaying fine spirits, stone was installed on the fireplace and bar walls. A 4" thick floating bluestone hearth sets off the stone on the fireplace wall. Custom tile in the master bathroom shower and wall create a stunning backdrop for the free-standing tub. A custom vanity extends wall to wall with a limestone countertop and two vessel sinks. The 5" white oak flooring with a natural oiled finish was installed throughout the home. A Wolf range adds a high-end touch to the custom kitchen.
Upcycled Vintage

This 1892 house was purchased by newlyweds, Ryan and Victoria, and was in much need of a renovation. Because of the house's history as a brothel, we wanted to integrate its vintage roots with the modern industrial vibe that the homeowners wanted. We wrapped the main island in reclaimed planks original to the house. Corrugated steel was given a rusty patina that wraps the front of the island. We installed an operable skylight to brighten up the dark kitchen area. We upcycled vintage telephone insulators which now hang from inside the industrial steel lined skylight. Stained pine shelves were installed on the sink wall and along the living room wall supported with pipe brackets. Concrete countertops, Eco Stucco lime plaster walls, new stainless steel appliances and wide-plank hardwood flooring throughout. A second-story addition is in this couple's future as their family grows.
Artisan Meat and Fish

Creative Eye Design + Build came in and developed a new logo and colour scheme that better reflected the quality of Artisan Meat & Fish, yet fit within their small-business budget. The new logo and colour scheme have since been applied to their new website and all promotional materials. Artisan Meat & Fish is located in the heart of Granite Bay in the upscale Quarry Ponds Market. They specialize in fresh hormone free, natural meats and seafoods.
Streng Bros. Kitchen

We stayed true to the Streng Brothers' Mid Century Modern architecture in this kitchen design, but brought it up to date using modern, sustainable materials. We added additional cabinetry and wine storage along the exterior wall. The peninsula was topped with a locally-made concrete countertop, with CaesarStone quartz on the perimeter countertops. The retro backsplash is made from recycled glass. Energy Star appliances and custom cross-cut bamboo cabinets contribute to the sustainable sensibility.
Sophisticated Asian Living Room

An uninviting living room gets a much needed facelift with an Asian twist. Boring beams are enhanced with cross beams; a dated fireplace gets a new stone surround and sleek slate tile, and a boring wall gets 5 custom "floating" shelves for the homeowner's beloved books. Finally, an underused formal dining area becomes family friendly, and a damaged hardwood floor is refinished.
Jerry Street Remodel

We completely re-designed this space giving the homeowners a walk-in pantry and maximized storage space with full-height custom cabinetry and large drawers at the island. A custom copper hood is a real showpiece in the kitchen. Modern lighting over the island and mason jar chandelier over the dining table add a bit of whimsy. We repurposed the dining room table with a little sanding, staining/painting and tile inlay, new chairs and voila, a completely new look! Being in the wine business, it was important for these homeowners to have an area in their kitchen to show off their favorite wines, not only do they have a wine frig, but the pullouts flanking the frig are custom-built to hold wine glasses and extra bottles of wine. The stools at the island are even made out of the wine barrels!
Fiery Red and Black Bathroom

A young couple wanted a cutting-edge bathroom – he's 6'6", she's 5"10", so a standard height vanity wasn't going to do – they were thrilled with the multi-height, red–stained wood vanity top that we built personally for them. One of the focal points of the bathroom are the Sonobath HYDROS vessel sinks with their elegantly sloping design and off-center concealed drain system with a recessed tray covered in natural river rock. A dated 5' tub used to sit where you now see a 8' wide shower. Dual rainheads were integrated into the hand-crafted teak beam. A Caesarstone crocodile pattern quartz panel showcases the dual matching showerheads. The teak floormat and bench add natural elements to this bathroom. A wall mounted radiant heater will keep this bathroom warm and comfortable. The creme de la creme of this bathroom is the waterproof tv in the shower, with stereo, of course – when not in use, the tv converts to a mirror.
Perceptive Way Remodel

Not only did these homeowners receive a gorgeous new kitchen with new appliances and countertops, the size of their kitchen doubled in size when we turned their existing outdoor patio into a walk-in pantry and new dining area with a custom bamboo slat wall treatment that's lit from behind. A beautiful hand-scraped walnut countertop sits atop the island. The countertops are recycled Eco by Cosentino. The reticulating faucet and pot filler are by Kohler. The custom hood sits above a recycled glass tile backsplash. New QuickStep laminate plank flooring was installed throughout the house. The rolling chalkboard pantry door was painted with magnetic and chalkboard paint which is fun for menus and daily reminders and as well as a great place to showcase school art!
Pleasant Grove Custom Home

Attention to detail was given to every room in this 10,000 square foot 40-acre custom estate. The homeowners wanted every room in the house to have a personality all its own – the beach bedroom, the lodge bedroom, the safari bedroom, the guest bedroom, and the magnificent master bedroom, each with adjoining bathrooms. A savannah-style balcony overlooks the lake. This magnificent home also includes a large hobby room, an at-home office, a home theater, two family rooms, a gourmet kitchen, and an elevator.
River Park Second-Story Addition

An existing 1100sf, 1950's single-story home located in a tree-lined East Sacramento neighborhood was transformed into a 2400sf, two-story bungalow. Fine craftsmanship and attention to detail make this a true Craftsman home inside and out. The existing kitchen was given a complete makeover; the existing two bedrooms are now a guest room and office. A new dining room, mud room, and laundry room were added to the first floor, creating a spacious floorplan. The pass-through window and bar counter between the kitchen and dining room will be perfect for entertaining guests in the dining room or enjoying a family barbecue. The new second floor includes a spacious master suite with spa bath, a bonus room, and second bedroom with bath.
Meadow Vista Addition

We added a 600 square foot guest quarter suite to this family's home. The bedroom has an exposed beam, vaulted ceiling. We also added a hallway leading from the garage to the main house so the homeowners are not exposed to inclement weather when walking between the garage and the main house. We continued the deck, railing and stone wall along the front of the addition to blend the old with the new. Instead of hauling the trees away from the site, we milled them onsite, to be used to make large barn doors for the firewood shed at the rear of the property. Wood that was too small to mill was stacked neatly in the shed for firewood for the homeowners to enjoy during winter months.

Granite Bay Remodel and Landscaping

This home took on a complete transformation, inside and out. It was given a fresh, new look, from the gourmet kitchen's refinished cabinetry, Viking appliances and granite countertops, new furnishings, lighting, flooring and fresh paint colors to captivating tiered landscaping with pools and cabanas, making this home an entertainer's dream. The custom entry door, awnings, wrought iron railings, and fountain are just a few of the finishing touches that make this home a real showplace.
